These landscape paintings on Kleenex® tissues represent the cycle of impermanence and decline that exists in all things – even the paintings themselves. They combine transparent medium and ephemeral material to contrast the solidity of my weighty, three-dimensional landscape relief paintings and present the landscape in a state of vulnerability.

The Memory Garden series of watercolor on Kleenex® tissues began in 2026 after the death of my mother. She loved flowers and I began to think of botanical gardens not only as actual “collections” of flowers but in a metaphorical sense as colorful representations associated with our memories of lived experiences. Both types of gardens are environments in which we dwell but memory gardens are the internal artifacts we carry with us that are visions of presence, disappearance and reemergence.
